Staying safe
Last updated: October 2026
What Aheri does
- Only verified members can see profiles, like, match and chat.
- Your exact location is never collected. Only your town is shown.
- Who you want to see, and your date of birth, are never shown to other members.
- You can block, report, unmatch or hide your profile at any time.
- People review reports, and urgent ones come first.
The Verified badge means someone passed our photo check. It does not guarantee who they are or what they intend. Please stay careful.
Before you meet
- Talk for a while first. Be wary of anyone who rushes, or refuses a video call.
- Search for their name and photos online. Check that their story is consistent.
- Never send money, airtime or M-Pesa to someone you haven't met, whatever the reason.
- Keep your home address, workplace and daily routine private.
When you meet
- Meet in a busy public place, in daylight if you can.
- Tell a friend who you are meeting, where, and when you will check in.
- Arrange your own transport, and keep your phone charged.
- Watch your drink. Leave if something feels wrong, you don't owe anyone an explanation.
Protecting your privacy
- Be careful what your photos reveal: your gate, car number plate, workplace or school.
- Share personal details slowly, and only when you trust the person.
- If someone threatens to reveal your private life or orientation, or demands something in return for silence, don't pay. Screenshot the messages, block them, and report them using “Threatens to expose me, or blackmail”. We treat these reports as urgent.
Getting help
- In immediate danger: call 999 or 112.
- On Aheri: use Report on any profile or in any chat, or Block to cut contact straight away.
- Read our Community Guidelines.
Kenya's national gender-based violence helpline is 1195 (free).
